Dunav Econt finalize roster with three players from abroad

Bulgarian champions Dunav Econt have finalized their roster for the upcoming season with the announcement that young American forwards Danielle Page and Janie Mitchell and experienced Czech guard Veronika Bortelova will join the club for the new season. It was also made clear that another 3 players - Svetlana Asenova, Roksana Yordanova and last season's team captain Diana Naydenova - will almost certainly leave, as they haven't signed new contracts.

Danielle Page will join the team of Dunav Econt after the end of the season in WNBA, where she made her debut this year, upon graduation from the Univ. of Nebraska. Prior to the Olympic break of the WNBA regular season she has only appeared in two games for the Connecticut Sun, playing a total of 6 minutes, in which she has scored 2 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.

Janie Mitchell also graduated from college this year. She spent 3 seasons at Georgia Tech, in the last of which (2007/08) she averaged 16.4 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.4 apg in 32 games.

Veronika Bortelova comes from Polish club CCC Polkowice, where she spent the last 2 seasons. Before that she was with USK Prague in her native Czech Republic.

Bortelova and Mitchell will probably be relied upon to make up for the absence of Naydenova and Yordanova respectively, while Page will have to fill in for last season's key player of the team Asenova, who is most probably retiring.

Last month Dunav Econt aquired Zornitsa Kostova and Natalia Topalova from rival club Lukoil Neftochimic, which means that half of last season's squad is being replaced and it also suggests a whole new starting five.

Young prospects Hristina Guerdjikova and Viktoria Mircheva are trying to find themselves clubs to be loaned to. If they don't, they'll stay at Dunav Econt for one more season, as their contracts end in 2009.
