Lukoil Academic is the champion of Bulgaria for 11th straight year
Lukoil Academic defended its title in the Bulgarian NBL and became champion for 11th straight year. The team defeated its biggest rival in the last several years Levski Sofia in the fifth game of the final series with 86-81. So the players of Sasho Vezenkov won the series 3-2 victories.
The defending champions took a 6-point advantage in the first quarter but Levski was only 4 points behind at halftime – 31-35. Lukoil led by 6 points after the third period, but with 43 seconds remaining Levski was only one point behind. Tencho Banev dinked to give Lukoil 3-point lead and Thomas Massamba secured the victory of his team from the free-throw line.
Brandon Heath scored 18 points for the winning team and Darryl Watkins added 17 and Veselin Veselinov - 13. For Levski Marko Marinovic and Mladen Pantic scored 15 each and with 13 points finished Chavdar Kostov.
